About Us

A brief summary of our history, our support staff, and the organizations to which we belong, written by the owner.

Each and every order you place with us plants one native tree in Madagascar, regardless of what you purchase.

Our History

Fortunately, I was introduced to the fascinating world of reptiles and amphibians at an early age. As a youngster, at any one point in time, you could find five or more terrariums in my room containing anoles, iguanas, snakes, plated lizards, tree frogs, newts, monitors, toads, frogs, bearded dragons, geckos, turtles, and salamanders.

In fact, I used to pay for all the animals I kept by mowing lawns and selling baseball cards. I would then ride my bike to the drug store, get a money order, and mail it to whichever reptile company I was ordering from at the time. Those were days that helped form the bedrock of a lifetime zeal for reptiles and amphibians.

Our Management Team

Our 5,000 square foot facility is brimming with successful breeding projects, healthy animals that are well cared for, and a supportive staff of individuals who are also passionate about reptiles, including…

Meg

Meg has been with us for several years, and is a deeply valued member of the Backwater family. She's in charge of, well, everything.

Her expertise, cheerful attitude, and uncompromising work ethic means she's a leader at our company and a pleasure to work with each day.

She’s taken a real liking to some of our eight-legged critters and is really enjoying raising her young antilles pink toe, “Manson.” She also cares for a ball python at home, which her whole family enjoys.

Sam

The owner and resident chameleon breeder, Sam recently hatched-out 39 Yellow-lip Parson’s chameleons after 577 days of tedious incubation, which is the first time this has occurred on the continent. He’s hatched-out 24 chameleon species in all, as well as countless leopard geckos, box turtles, and more.

Sam previously worked at Apple corporate for eleven years as a financial modeler, creating complex predictive forecasts for the online organization. His work brought him around the world, from Beijing to Ireland, but he always had time to care for, breed, and monitor his reptiles and amphibians.

Backwater Reptiles - Chelsey
Chelsey

When it comes to social media, Chelsey is our resident phenom. Our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts, as well as our reptile blog and weekly newsletter, are all managed by her, and we couldn’t be more pleased with the job she’s doing. She’s our lead marketer and resident photographer.

Chelsea was surrounded by reptiles growing up, and kept a Corn snake for many years. Her family even had a six-foot Green iguana that roamed the house freely. She has a particular fondness for our resident Leucistic Ball python, which she’s pictured holding to the left.

  • Why buy reptiles?

We offer exotic reptiles for sale online at absolute rock-bottom prices, which means we make these fascinating animals available to you affordably as pets, or even to start your own reptile breeding project. We are reptile enthusiasts who believe captive breeding is integral to the future of the market, as it not only helps protect wild herp populations, but is an incredibly rewarding experience that tends to intensify one's passion for these amazing prehistoric creatures. Whether you buy a snake, lizard, turtle, tortoise, or alligator, we are driven to provide the highest quality live reptiles for sale.

  • Why buy amphibians?

Amphibians are generally slower-moving, and have uniquely moist skin which means they are never far from a source of water. Their life cycle is nothing short of incredible: they hatch in water, spend weeks or months in metamorphosis, then become either terrestrial or remain primarily water bound. Some salamanders even breathe through their skin! Our live amphibians for sale online include frogs, toads, salamanders, and newts. Some are huge, some are small, and virtually all are amazing to observe in captivity. When you buy amphibians from us, you can rest assured they are fully guaranteed to arrive alive and in great condition. Why not start an amphibian breeding project today?

  • Why buy feeder insects?

Reptile and amphibian food should be varied, which is why we offer an array of feeder insects for sale. It's always far more cost effective to buy feeder insects in bulk, which often saves up to 70% off pet store prices. Plus, the feeders are delivered right to your doorstep. We offer live crickets for sale, as well as mealworms, wax worms, nightcrawlers, and now even lizards, all at the lowest possible prices. Our reptile and amphibian feeder insects and lizards include a guarantee of live arrival.
